KOMPANY APPOINTED AS ANDERLECHT PLAYER MANAGER

Vincent Kompany will take on a player-manager role at Belgian Pro League club Anderlecht after calling time on his 11-year spell at Manchester City.
It was confirmed on Sunday that Kompany would be leaving Premier League champions City, with the Belgium defender ending his career at the club by winning a domestic treble.
Now his next move has been revealed, with the 33-year-old announcing that he is to take his first steps into coaching at Anderlecht, the club where he started his career, signing a three-year deal as player-manager.
And Kompany says Pep Guardiola has served as the inspiration for his decision to re-join Anderlecht, stating that the City boss allowed him to rediscover his love of football.
"The end of this season couldn’t be more memorable. I have lived the dream here," Kompany wrote on his official Facebook page.
"I have learned so much the last three years from an incredible manager. Pep Guardiola reignited my love for the game.
"I've witnessed, participated, analysed, absorbed, studied. Man City play the football I want to play. It is the football I want to teach and to see played.
"I have decided to take up the challenge at Anderlecht. Player-manager. I want to share my knowledge with the next purple generations. With that, I will also put a bit of Manchester in the heart of Belgium.
"This may come as a surprise to you. It's the most passionate yet rational decision I've ever made. As a footballer, I was born and raised at Anderlecht. Since the age of six, I have been one with that club. A history of 34 league titles, they are second to none."
Kompany left Anderlecht to join Hamburg in 2006, spending two seasons in Germany before transferring to City in 2008, going on to win four league titles, two FA Cups and four EFL Cups.
RSCA had a disappointing campaign under Hein Vanhaezebrouck and then caretaker Karim Belhocine, finishing fourth in the league, and sixth in the subsequent play-offs, as well as failing to make inroads in either the Belgian Cup or the Europa League.
Kompany explained it was a chance meeting that set the wheels in motion for what looks set to be an emotional return to his boyhood club.
"I stopped at their training grounds on my way to international duty last year, just to say hello," he continued.
"Marc Coucke, the chairman, and Sports Director Michael Verschueren asked my opinion regarding the difficult situation the club was in.
"I shared my thoughts and listened to their vision for the future: ambitious, courageous and determined to get back to number one. I offered my help, no strings attached, should they need it.
"Anderlecht has a tradition of having fantastic youth. You could say they have the past and the future but struggle with the present."
Kompany went on to put together some sessions with Anderlecht's technical director Frank Arnesen – formerly of Hamburg, Chelsea and Tottenham – on "how to build a strong playing identity", work that apparently left a strong impression.
"Not so long ago, I took a call from Anderlecht. Quite unexpectedly, they offered me the position of player-manager. Michael and Frank explained to me in detail how they saw it working in practice. They had thought it through," he added.
"Mr. Coucke, the owner, pledged full support: time, budget, framework, staff, facilities. I was left not only impressed, but also intrigued by this sign of confidence in me."

THE ATTACK ON WHATSAPP

The WhatsApp vulnerability revealed earlier this week sounds terrifying.
Hackers could call a person on the WhatsApp messaging app and place malicious code on their phone in order to see their personal information — victims may not even have needed to answer the call for their phone to be infected, an expert told CNN Business.
But the vast majority of people were never at risk of having their private chats revealed by this attack. Regular users of messaging apps should still be concerned, however, and not just for themselves. No system is fully secure, experts say, and compromised high-profile targets could impact more than individuals.
Attacks like this are so sophisticated and expensive experts say, that they're typically only used against individuals in the crosshairs of government intelligence agencies and other well-resourced entities. People like dissidents, political figures and journalists.
"This is the kind of advanced exploit that would be highly selective in nature and would be available to only advanced and highly motivated actors," a WhatsApp spokesperson told CNN Business.
The messaging app, which is owned by Facebook, said it has patched the vulnerability. It also worked with groups representing human rights workers before making details of the attack public earlier this week.
Most people assume WhatsApp is more secure than most methods of communication, like email. It uses a technology called end-to-end encryption, which should mean messages can only be read by those who send or receive them and can't be intercepted along the way. The encryption essentially turns the sending and receiving phones into keys, and only those keys can open the contents of a message.
But experts CNN spoke to say while end-to-end encryption is important, and that everyone should use it, users should not develop a false sense of security. If a person's phone is hacked, that means the attackers could potentially read the messages that phone receives, even if they were sent through an encrypted service like WhatsApp or Singal.
Often, the biggest risk factor is the phone user themselves.
"The weakest link in the mobile phone messaging infrastructure is the end-users phone," Kurtis Minder, the CEO of GroupSense, a cyber security company, told CNN on Wednesday. "If someone wants access to your messages and information, they are more likely to compromise the device than capture the traffic across the network and attempt to decrypt [the encrypted messages]."
Citizen Lab is an academic security research group that investigates digital threats to civil society groups and online freedom of expression and has been investigating the most recent WhatsApp attack. John Scott-Railton, a senior researcher there, says the focus on end-to-end encryption can mean people forget about the security of their device.
Minder suggests people should view their phone as a computer and install the mobile equivalent of anti-virus software on all of their mobile devices.
And then there are the people who should always be on alert about their communications.
Earlier this year it emerged that Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior advisor, had used WhatsApp to communicate with foreign leaders. Cybersecurity experts expressed concern that highly sensitive government communications could be at risk of exploitation by foreign governments and hackers.
"Jared Kushner on his personal phone using a free commercial service that is connected to a company with huge security breaches is a recipe for disaster," Daniel Schuman, a former House staffer who chairs the Congressional Data Coalition, a nonprofit that aims to encourage smarter tech practices in Congress, told CNN at the time.
A London-based human rights lawyer was among the possible targets of the WhatsApp vulnerability. And Amnesty International claims it was targeted via a WhatsApp message containing NSO's spying software in 2018 while working on a campaign to release six women's rights activists detained in Saudi Arabia.
Minder warns that similar high profile targets should exercise additional caution about communicating over any app.

"If someone is targeting you specifically, it is likely they will succeed," said Minder. "So be careful what you share over mobile messaging, WhatApp or otherwise."

SUAREZ SENDS BARCA FANS A POWERFUL MESSAGE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

  • The Uruguayan is unavailable for the Copa final because of a knee injury.
  • He writes on Twitter: "Work looking forward because you can always improve. Learning from the most difficult moments even if the situation is very painful! It’s hard but we need to be positive."
Luis Suarez won't be able to help Barcelona in the remaining matches of the 2018/2019 campaign, including the crucial Copa del Rey final against Valencia. The Uruguayan had to undergo a knee surgery right after the disastrous 4-0 Champions League defeat to Liverpool. He still hopes to get fit for the upcoming Copa America tournament in Brazil which starts next month.
Suarez posts an emotional message on his personal Twitter account: "Work looking forward because you can always improve. Learning from the most difficult moments even if the situation is very painful! It’s hard but we need to be positive."
He also adds a picture with a telling caption: 'Keep going, looking ahead'
Suarez has scored 25 goals and provided 13 assists in 49 games across all competitions this season. He has been an undisputed starter at the centre of Barcelona's attack as Kevin-Prince Boateng wasn't able to become the Uruguayan's competitor.
Will Suarez be missed against Valencia?

BARCELONA DRESSING ROOM DOESN’T WANT GRIEZMANN

  • Barcelona players allegedly aren't happy about Antoine's possible arrival.
  • They don't like the way Griezmann refused the Catalans last season.
  • Contrary to the reports, Messi confessed that he didn't call the Frenchman.
  • The forward is not the exact reinforcement the team needs, they believe.
  • His arrival would be a bad example for the youngsters at the club.
According to Sport, an outlet based in Barcelona, the players at the club will not welcome Griezmann if Bartomeu secures the Frenchman's signing. Reportedly, there are four main reasons why the dressing room won't welcome him with open arms.
First of all, the way he rejected the Liga champions a year ago didn't go well with the majority of the squad. Last season, the club's leaders were waiting for Antoine to join and were disappointed when he posted the infamous documentary 'The Decision' to announce his intention to remain at Atletico Madrid.

Second, Messi is allegedly not as excited about the 28-year-old's arrival as it was earlier reported by other sources. Leo supposedly confessed to his teammates that he didn't call the French international to convince him to join Barcelona.

Third, most of the locker-room believes that the forward is not the player Barca needs at the moment. Perhaps they believe that a striker should not be the board's top priority in the summer and they consider that reinforcements need to be done in other positions.
And lastly, the way the 2018 World Cup winner played 'cat and mouse' with the club last season would serve as a bad example to the younger players from La Masia. Perhaps they are right that last summer's saga went overboard and that Barca has lost its authority in the eyes of the youth.

Atletico recently announced that their best player will be leaving the club once the transfer window opens. Barcelona have allegedly contacted Griezmann over a contract and are waiting until July 1st to activate his €120m release clause.

BARCA NOT READY TO MEET DE LIGT RISING DEMANDS

  • De Ligt has changed his demands in recent weeks.
  • He wants a leading role in the team from the getgo.
  • His agent, Mino Raiola, demands a bigger commission fee than previously.
  • Barcelona are not ready to satisfy these demands.
Multiple reports claim that Matthijs de Ligt sealed an agreement with Barcelona already last month, on April 12, however, nothing has been confirmed yet.
Moreover, worrying reports have come on Friday from renowned Catalan journalist Gerard Romero claiming that potential agreement is becoming even more complicated as de Ligt considers that his status has risen in recent days.
His agent, Mino Raiola, asks for more money than was agreed on because of the interesting offers that are coming in from other clubs. While the centre-back himself asks to have a leading role.
Right now there are three world-class centre-backs at Barca, namely Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet, so it's quite natural that Matthijs wants some assurances.
Here is de Ligt's Eredivisie record, as per Transfermarkt:
As for Raiola, the deal can only be fully completed once Barca and the agent come to an agreement which is the most serious obstacle at the moment as the Catalans stay firm in their decision to spend around 70-80 million euros for the Dutchman, just as they did with his teammate De Jong.
At the moment, Barcelona cannot meet the new demands. But it doesn't mean that they will give up on de Ligt that easy.
Matthijs himself was unable to shed light on his much-talked-about transfer on Wednesday: "I can’t say anything about it. We will see where I am at the end of the summer. Nothing has been finalised yet."

MOURINHO I DOUBT MESSI DESERVES BALLON D’OR

  • Mourinho states that Champions League elimination raises questions over Messi's season.
  • The Portuguese doubts that Messi should be given Ballon d'Or without winning the most prestigious trophy in European football.
Jose Mourinho, the master of controversial statements, has questioned Leo Messi's right to win the highest individual award in football, Ballon d'Or.
"I have doubts that he [Messi] deserves the Ballon d'Or this year because he failed in the Champions' League," the former Real Madrid boss said in the interview with RMC Sport.
Barcelona lost to Liverpool 4-0 in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final. The braces of Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum brought the Reds the win over Barca that allowed them to overcome the 3-0 defeat at the Camp Nou.

Barca's season is basically over now as we have already won the La Liga title and only have a Copa del Rey final to play. Many expect the Liverpool disaster to motivate the Barcelona board to introduce several radical changes in summer.

As for Leo Messi, he is still seen as the most likely winner of the prestigious award. Barca captain is on the way to his sixth Golden Boot with 34 league goals in 33 matches. Overall, Messi scored 48 and assisted 22 goals in 48 appearances this season. There is no player in the world who is even remotely close to Leo in terms of goal contribution. So, Mourinho's words probably shouldn't be considered as something more serious than his usual attempts to start controversy.

Interestingly, just a few weeks ago the Portuguese said something very different about Messi's Ballon d'Or chances.
"Messi is having a phenomenal season and now with Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo outside this fight, he knows also that the Ballon d'Or is there waiting for him,’ Mourinho told Russia Today.

GUARDIOLA RULES OUT JUVENTUS JOB

Pep Guardiola reiterated he is not interested in leaving Manchester City to become Juventus coach.
The 48-year-old has been tipped as a contender to take over as Juve's next boss - a position that became vacant on Friday when it was confirmed Massimiliano Allegri will step down at the end of the season.
Guardiola signed a contract extension with City last year that still has two more seasons left to run, and he sees no reason to quit the Etihad Stadium at this moment in time.
"How many times do I have to say? I'm not going to go to Juventus, I'm not going to move to Italy," he said at Friday's news conference ahead of the FA Cup final against Watford.
"I'm satisfied here, I'm not going anywhere. Next season I will be manager of Man City, I said many times."
City can become the first English side to win a clean sweep of domestic honours in a single season should they lift the FA Cup on Saturday, having already won the EFL Cup and Premier League.

WHAT COACHING BARCELONA DOES TO YOUR HAIR

  • Coaching Barca is one of the most stressful jobs in football.
  • During their time in Catalonia, Guardiola and Luis Enrique started to go bald.
  • Valverde didn't lose his hair but it started to go grey instead.
Barcelona is one of the biggest clubs in the world and it is not surprising every coach that stays at the club for more than a year is affected by the stressful day-to-day environment.
The boss has to maintain a good relationship with the media, the board, manage a dress-room full of world-class stars and in addition to that, play attractive football to make the fans happy.
The best example of the 'before-after' effect is Pep Guardiola. When he took over the club in 2008, he was still only 37. At the presentation, the Spaniard looked young and full of energy. And the most unbelievable thing - he still had hair.
However, when his four-season-long spell at the club was over, he left Catalonia completely bald.
Another example is Luis Enrique. Unlike Pep, Lucho was already in his forties when he took over. But he didn't look old, far from it. We all know that one of his favourite activities is cycling, which helped him stay in form even at 44.
But just like Guardiola, when the time came for him to leave Barca, he looked exhausted, drained out. His hair started getting grey and he had even lost a fair amount of it.
And lastly, being in charge at Barcelona didn't go easy for Ernesto Valverde. The Basque coach joined the Catalans only two years ago but it hasn't gone unnoticed.
Even though he is the oldest coach to work at the club in a while, when he took over for Athletico Bilbao, he still looked rather young. His time in Catalonia included two humiliating exits from the Champions League, Neymar's departure and constant pressure from the media. No wonder that he has changed so much since then.
Do you agree that coaching Barcelona is the most stressful job in football?

DE JONG RULES NIKE’S MARKETING PROPOSAL OUT

  • De Jong will his surname on the shirt at Barca, after all.
  • His sponsor Nike suggested his shirt should be signed 'Frenkie' instead, citing marketing reasons.
  • The number he will wear is still unknown.
Frenkie de Jong had a Q&A with his fans on Instagram and someone asked if it's true that his Barca shirt will be signed Frenkie instead of de Jong. The midfielder answer was short: no, it will be saying de Jong, just like at Ajax.
The source of these rumours in Nike's marketing proposal. Back in February, in thw interview with Het Kontakt, de Jong revealed that his advertising partner Nike would've preferred him to use the name 'Frenkie' rather than more traditional surname, de Jong on his shirt. However, the player also added that he is 'not sure about that.' It appears that he has made his decision and will stick with 'de Jong'.
The number he will be playing with is still unknown, although he would allegedly like to continue with '21' he has had at Ajax. The No.21 shirt used to belong to Rafinha, however, it is currently owned by Carles Alena. The young Spaniard was promoted to the senior team following the Brazilian's season-ending knee ligaments injury. Perhaps, the midfielder would have to switch to another number.

DE LIGT SETS DEADLINE FOR HIS FUTURE TO BE SORTED OUT

  • Barca have a 70-million euros agreement on de Ligt's transfer with Ajax.
  • Some things still need to be sorted out between Barcelona and the player's agent, Mino Raiola.
  • De Ligt wants the move to be completed before 24 May when he joins the national team.
  • In the next 10 days, the final meeting should take place between Barca and de Ligt where everything will be signed.
  • The move will be announced after Copa final.
Despite Matthijs de Ligt's transfer to Barcelona being roughly agreed on, the official announcement is still pending.
According to Diario Sport, there are several reasons for that. Firstly, it's de Ligt'sgreat performances in the Champions League that saw many other European clubs interested and trying to outbid Barca for the centre-back. Secondly, it's the player's agent, Mino Raiola, who is notoriously 'difficult' to deal with in negotiations. This last factor has even prompted Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu to take charge of the transfer himself, just like he did previously with Frenkie de Jong.
Blaugrana colours would really suit them, wouldn't they?
In any case, the deal is nearing its completion and, according to Sport's information, de Ligt wants everything sorted out before 24 May when he joins Holland on national duty. Ajax's final game this season will take place on Wednesday and after that the 19-year-old will have a 10-day break before joining the national team. During this period the two parties will meet again to sign the final agreement.

MOURINHO:- TIME HAS SHOWN THAT UNITED’S PROBLEM REMAINS

Jose Mourinho believes Manchester United's end-of-season collapse has demonstrated the problems he faced during his time as manager have not been addressed by letting him go.
The former Inter and Chelsea boss faced widespread criticism for the brand of football his United team played, despite the fact he won the EFL Cup, the Europa League and led them to a second-place finish in the Premier League.
Mourinho was sacked by United in December following a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool with United sixth in the table and 19 points off the top.
Under Mourinho's replacement Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Red Devils went on a 12-game unbeaten run in the league, but their form nosedived towards the end of the season as they failed to win any of their last five matches and finished in sixth, 32 points behind champions Manchester City.
Mourinho reminded the club's supporters of his assessment that guiding the club to second place in the league in 2017-18 was one of his "biggest achievements" as a manager, and said recent events have added weight to his comments.
"About United I want to say only two things," the 56-year-old told L'Equipe. "One is that time has spoken. Two is that the problems are still there.
"I do not always do my analysis publicly on Manchester United. I do not want to talk about it and I have the feeling that I do not need to speak, that time gives explanations.
"I said nine or 10 months ago that after winning eight championships, finishing second with United may have been my greatest achievement.
"Now people understand."
Mourinho remains tight-lipped on the question of where he might continue his career, having taken six months out of the game while occasionally working as a pundit.
Asked whether he could take over at French champions Paris Saint-Germain, where Thomas Tuchel clinched the Ligue 1 title in his first season but suffered Champions League humiliation at the hands of United, Mourinho said: "Impossible. You can't coach a club that's got a coach!"
Lyon coach Bruno Genesio has confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season, and Mourinho was asked whether he could be his replacement at Groupama Stadium.
"No comment," said Mourinho. "I don't respond to this type of question."
