MESSI :- MY SON THIAGO CRITICIZES ME!

Lionel Messi is not immune from being criticised - even by son Thiago.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner is widely regarded as one of the finest footballers to have ever played the sport.
But the Barcelona captain, LaLiga's record goalscorer, confirmed in an interview that Thiago is not always impressed.
"[He] understands football more because he's the biggest [of his children] and he talks about everything to do with football," Messi told World Soccer.
"I have already had some criticism from him! Barcelona, LaLiga, the Champions League... he follows it all. He likes it, he asks questions and he gives me pointers when things don't go so well."
Messi added he previously did not like to talk about games he had lost, but Thiago's interest encourages him to analyse disappointing results.
"It's not like that anymore!" Messi added. "It's always tough to manage the losses and the bad performances.
"But Thiago forces me to talk about what happened and explain why we didn't win. Now, we talk much more."
Messi and Barca are in Copa del Rey action on Thursday, the holders seeking to overturn a 2-0 deficit when they welcome Sevilla to Camp Nou in the second leg of the quarter-finals.

CHELSEA STRIKER HIGUAIN ALMOST QUIT FOOTBALL FOR HIS MUM

Chelsea striker Gonzalo Higuain revealed that his mother convinced him not to quit football after she was taken ill in 2016.
The Juventus loanee, who completed his move to Stamford Bridge earlier this week, opened up about the experience of hearing that his mother, Nancy, had been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness while he was on international duty with Argentina at the Copa America.
Higuain did not learn of his mother's condition until after Argentina had lost on penalties to Chile in the final and he told the Mirror that the news left him ready to end his playing career.
"I decided immediately that I must stop playing football so that I could look after my mum," said the 31-year-old, who could make his debut against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup on Sunday.
"I suspected something was wrong at home during the Copa America, but it was still a huge shock when I was told the truth.
"I felt guilty, because I played in that final without knowing. My whole world came crashing down in that moment. I was not interested in anything else but my mum. I told her I was finished with football and if it had been down to me I would have stopped playing.
"Her reply was that when I played football it made her happy. She told me that she would not allow me to give up something I loved. She asked me to carry on for her and I knew I had to grant that wish."
While Nancy made a full recovery, Higuain scored 24 goals in 38 Serie A appearances for Juventus the following season and won the Scudetto in his first term with the Bianconeri.
A second league title followed in 2017-18 but Higuain's form dipped and he was loaned out to AC Milan in August 2018, scoring six goals in 15 league appearances for Gennaro Gattuso's side.
Now reunited with his former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea, Higuain made it clear that football will never take precedence over his family.
"My family and friends are everything to me," he said.
"After that, comes football. People need to understand that.
"They see you kick a ball and they don't think you have anything to think about outside the game."
Higuain's arrival at Chelsea prompted speculation over the future of France international Olivier Giroud at Stamford Bridge.
The 32-year-old has endured a disappointing campaign, scoring just once in the Premier League, but he said that competition for places would not be a hindrance to him.
Giroud said: "Gonzalo's arrival will help me to step up again and keep me fighting to be competitive by working hard in training.
"And it's going to be a benefit for the team. I hope he will help us to win trophies."

NEYMAR’S FATHER ANGERED BY SON’S ROUGH TREATMENT

Neymar's father has hit out at the rough treatment his son has received on and off the field after the Paris Saint-Germain star's latest injury setback.
The Brazil forward limped out of Wednesday's Coupe de France win over Strasbourg after a strong challenge from Moataz Zemzemi.
It was later confirmed Neymar, who appeared upset as he left the pitch, had suffered a "painful recurrence" of the foot issue that sidelined him for almost three months last year.
And in a lengthy Instagram post, Neymar Santos Sr hit out at those who suggested his son was guilty of inciting players to injure him.
He recounted Colombia defender Juan Zuniga's challenge that left Neymar with a fractured bone in his back, ruling him out of the 2014 World Cup semi-finals, and added of the most recent global showpiece in Russia: "A stomp on his ankle [from Mexico's Miguel Layun] when he was out of the game.
"It was said that there was nothing and that, on the contrary, he simulated. He had VAR, he had the whole world watching, but anyway, he was considered 'guilty'."
Neymar Santos Sr also cited the Strasbourg incident to strengthen his case and said whenever his son falls, he is considered a diver and met with harsh treatment.
He added: "Can we not dribble? We do not have the right to have talent? He gets carried away!
"He believes that some in the press purposely insist on these facts to sell issues.
"As always, life goes on, football too, and service geeks, who call themselves football experts, will continue to hold polls asking if 'Neymar deserves to be sanctioned'."
He warned by way of concluding his tirade: "Be ready because, as always, he will come back stronger!"

KLOPP DISMISSES COUTINHO RUMORS

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp dismissed speculation Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho could return to the Premier League leaders.
Coutinho has struggled to cement a spot in Barca's starting XI this season, having only arrived from Liverpool in a £142million deal last January.
The Brazil international has been linked with former club Liverpool as well as Premier League rivals Manchester United.
Asked about the rumours, Klopp told reporters: "That is something I don't want to talk about. I would not say it is a potential transfer or a likely one.
"Nothing to say. Whatever I say would open more stories and there is no story.
"Phil is at Barcelona and as I know he fits really well and everything is fine."
Klopp's own future was discussed ahead of Liverpool's clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The German boss signed a six-year contract extension in 2016 and Klopp is not interested in a new deal at Anfield, where Liverpool are four points clear atop the table.
"I would be really happy if they didn't come now because I don't want to think about it," Klopp said.
"I have a long time, there will be a lot of changes before then [2022] but I don't want to think about it at the moment. I am completely in this year and next year and then we will see."

BARCELONA PUT €42 MILLION STAR UP FOR SALE

Barcelona have put young Brazilian star Malcom up for sale less than 6 months after signing the winger from Bordeaux in a €42 million deal, according to reports by ESPN.
Malcom has featured in just three games for the club since his controversial transfer from the French side, who had initially agreed a deal with Roma before the Spanish champions completed a last-minute coup.
The Catalan club are reportedly actively looking for a buyer for the 21-year-old, who was one of the most soughtafter young players in world football. North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham have both been strongly linked to the Brazilian in the past.
It is believed Barcelona will be looking to recoup the €42 million they paid Bordeaux last summer, and will listen to any offers north of that price.
Manager Ernesto Valverde has struggled to find a role for Malcom despite their continual interest in signing a winger, with Chelsea's Willian at the focus of several failed bids. Valverde has described Malcom in the past as a "signing made by the club" rather than a player he had desired.

ABOUT 36 PASSENGERS KIDNAPPED ALONG THE BUEA - KUMBA HIGHWAY

Jan. 15/01/2919 about Thirty-six passengers were abducted by gunmen on Tuesday along the Buea-Kumba highway in the Southwest, one of the two war-torn English-speaking regions of Cameroon, according to locals.
"Two transport buses left Kumba for Buea and were stopped at Ediki village by gunmen. All passengers were ordered to step down and hand over their identification cards. They were then taken to the bush to an unknown destination. The bus drivers were ordered to return to the bus stop in Kumba," Samuel Asong, a driver who witnessed the incident, says so.
Movement along the highway has been halted and the search for the hostages has been launched, according to local authorities.
Cases of kidnapping are on the rise amid escalating conflict in the troubled English-speaking regions of the largely French-speaking African country.
In November, a group of 79 school children was kidnapped in Bamenda, the most populous city of Northwest, another English-speaking region.
The Cameroonian government has blamed armed separatists for the rampant abductions but the separatists insist they are staged by government to tarnish their "struggle for independence" internationally.
The United Nations estimates that more than 430,000 people have been displaced internally since government forces started clashing with armed separatists in November 2017.
The separatists are fighting to secede from Cameroon and create a nation called "Ambazonia" in the two Anglophone regions of Northwest and Southwest.

BARCELONA REJCTS NEYMAR PHONE CALL REPORT

Barcelona have rejected a report that claimed Neymar's father has contacted the club regarding setting up a return from Paris Saint-Germain.
Neymar joined PSG in a world-record deal in August 2017 but reports he has failed to settle in the French capital have been regular.
Barca captain Lionel Messi has spoken in favour of Neymar heading back to the LaLiga leaders, with reports this week claiming Neymar's father had been in touch over a possible deal.
Ernesto Valverde distanced himself from such reports and club spokesman Josep Vives said at a news conference on Tuesday there was no call from Neymar Sr to club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
"In the first place, that's not the case, and Neymar left because that's what he decided, and from there we have nothing more to say," Vives told reporters.
"We never talked about players who have contracts with other clubs, at the time he decided to leave Barca, a completely legitimate decision on his part."
Barca are reportedly trying to sign an attacker during the January transfer window following the sale of Munir El Haddadi to Sevilla, while PSG's financial situation has led to suggestions Neymar could be sold.
Valverde said earlier this month that permanent deals were unlikely to be concluded by the club this month, with Jeison Murillo joining on loan from Valencia to address a defensive injury crisis.
Barca's transfer kitty could be boosted by Paulinho's loan to Guangzhou Evergrande being converted into a permanent deal, however.
Vives told reporters the Chinese Super League side have already paid the fee, reported to be €42million, to complete the transfer.
"We would like to publicly explain the details of such a beneficial operation," he added.
"But we cannot do it because we are subject to a confidentiality clause with the Chinese club.
"The agreement is magnificent, good for the player, also for the Chinese club and very good for Barcelona."

ATLETICO MADRID IN TALKS TO SIGN £70 MILLION PREMIER LEAGUE STRIKER

Atletico Madrid are in talks to sign Alvaro Morata from Chelsea, who signed for the Blues in a club record £70 million fee less than 18 months ago, according to reports by Sky Sports.
Morata has struggled since joining the west London club, managing just scoring just 5 goals in 16 appearances in the Premier League, and manager Maurizio Sarri has lost patience with the Spaniard.
A host of La Liga clubs were initially keen on bringing the 26-year-old back to his home nation, but it appears Atletico Madrid have separated themselves and are in pole position to sign the former Real Madrid and Juventus striker. Morata would be the longterm replacement for Diego Costa.
The deal is believed to initially be a loan deal, but Chelsea are reportedly keen to push for a permanent fee or an option to make a loan deal permanent, with the club wanting to recoup a significant portion of the huge fee they paid for his services in 2017.
Morata's departure is set to pave way for the Blues making a major signing up front, with Callum Wilson and Gonzalo Higuain at the top of their wishlist.
Wilson has starred for Bournemouth this season, scoring 9 goals and also winning his first cap for England where he scored on debut. Higuain is believed to be Sarri's no.1 choice, but his situation is made difficult given he is on loan from Juventus at AC Milan, who do not wish to terminate his deal.

ZLATAN FINISHES OFF RONALDO’S ‘NEW CHALLENGE’ CLAIM OVER JUVE MOVE

  • Cristiano Ronaldo motivated his move to Juventus by the need of the new challenge.
  • He also suggested that Messi 'is afraid' of such challenge staying in Spain his whole career.
  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic  reckons such a claim is absurd, with Juve almost guaranteed to win Serie A every season.
  • A real challenge would be to join a second-division team and made them champions, the 37-year-old concludes.
Former Blaugrana Zlatan Ibrahimovic has labelled Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer to Juventus "bulls***" as it's far from being a challenge in any regard.
Shortly after signing for the Old Lady in the summer transfer window, the Portuguese superstar urged Leo Messi to join him in Italy in what he called a challenge.
"I've played in England, Spain, Italy, Portugal and for my national team, while he's still in Spain," said Ronaldo.
"Maybe he needs me more. For me, life is a challenge, I like it and I like to make people happy. He's a fantastic player and a good guy, but I don't miss anything here. This is my new life and I'm happy."
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not having any of it as the Swede has decided to shut down this rather nonsensical claim.
"Cristiano is talking about new challenges, he calls it a challenge to move to a club where it is already normal to win the Serie A,” summed up the situation Ibrahimovic, as per the Express.
Why did he not choose a club from a second division a few years ago?" Try to become a champion with such a second-division champion and lead them to the highest level, which is a challenge.
“It is bulls***, moving to Juventus is not a challenge at all."

GUARDIOLA: CITY CAN’T AFFORD £100 MILLION MIDFIELDER

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City cannot afford to sign Wolverhampton star Ruben Neves because they have been priced out by his reported £100 million price tag.
Guardiola, who has spent more than £500 million on new players in three years at the Etihad, is a known admirer of the Portugese star and had been expected to renew his interest in the Wolves player following his failed attempt at signing Jorginho last summer.
City have been in the market for a replacement for the ageing Fernandinho, but Guardiola says the club cannot afford the fee being touted for the 21-year-old.
"A month ago, I started reading: 'Ruben Neves, £100m.' That is not going to happen, we are not going to pay £100m for a holding midfielder," Guardiola said ahead of his side's clash with Neves' Wolves.
"Of course, all departments in the club, we have in every position four or five or six options, depending on age, what we believe and, of course, the price. Our wage bill for the players is eighth or ninth or tenth in Europe, so there are eight or nine clubs where the wages are higher than what Manchester City pay. We try to be stable in everything."
Guardiola defended the club's spending over the past few seasons, which includes transfer fees of over £50 million for Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte, Benjamin Mendy and Riyard Mahrez, saying the club needed to transition into a younger squad.
"When we spent a lot last season, it was because the team was old, it was 30-31 years old and that's why we did it. But we cannot do it every season. We have a limit and cannot spend more so that's why we need to be careful with the players and try next season to see what we can do to improve."
He also said it is difficult for Manchester City to make an impact in the transfer market because they are directly competing with Real Madrid and Barcelona. Ajax's Frenkie De Jong has been linked with all three major clubs, but Guardiola refused to be drawn on the possibility of signing the highly-touted youngster.
"If you are the only one who want players it's easy. But if you want one and many, many clubs want him it's more complicated, especially if it's Madrid or Barcelona," he said.
"Normally when you are involved with Madrid and Barcelona you are going to lose. You have to be quicker and more efficient.
"But I'm not talking about the case of the Ajax player because he is an Ajax player. There are many players, not just one if it doesn't happen."

VALDANO CALLS ON MADRID AND ISCO TO RESOLVE DIFFERENCES

Former Real Madrid sporting director and coach Jorge Valdano has called on the club to find a solution to Isco's ongoing plight.
The Spain international was a key man for Madrid as they won three consecutive Champions League titles under Zinedine Zidane, but he has fallen out of favour since Santiago Solari took over.
Isco's five LaLiga starts this season all came while Julen Lopetegui was at the helm, but Solari insisted there was nothing personal in his decision to leave the 26-year-old on the bench as a weakened Madrid side won 2-1 at Real Betis on Sunday.
Valdano is not impressed, though, and believes there must be issues behind the scenes that need to be fixed.
"A year ago, the great hopes of Real Madrid were Isco and [Marco] Asensio," Valdano told Onda Cero. "One has been lost along the way and the other is under observation.
"Everyone knows that something is wrong with Isco, but nobody knows what is happening. It should be solved in private. Cristo Gonzalez played ahead of Isco [against Betis] - this is a serious problem.
"I suppose it is something that is talked about within the club. Isco must do some soul-searching."
Madrid climbed to fourth in LaLiga with victory on Sunday, but Solari's men remain 10 points behind leaders Barcelona after 19 matches.

ALBA DOES’NT KNOW IF BARCA WANTS TO RESIGN HIM

Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba wants to stay at Camp Nou but is unsure if LaLiga's reigning champions will offer him a new contract.
Alba's future is up in the air with his Barca deal ending in 2020 and no renewal forthcoming at the moment.
The 29-year-old Spain international, who arrived from Valencia in 2012, has previously expressed his bemusement over a lack of progress regarding a contract extension.
Asked about the situation following Barca's 3-0 LaLiga victory against Eibar on Sunday, Alba said: "Everything is still the same for me, I have a year left on my contract and I don't know what the club thinks. I'm calm.
"They have to see if they want to renew me and when they do want to renew me if that is the case.
"I want to stay here as this is the club that I love and have always supported, but it depends on them.
"For me, I can only control my own performance which I think has been good, but I don't expect anything from anyone."
