BARCELONA FANS PICK ONE SUPERSTAR THEY WANT TO REPLACE SUAREZ

  • Barcelona supporters vote for Kylian Mbappe to become Luis Suarez's heir.
  • Harry Kane and Luka Jovic are second and third respectively.
Mundo Deportivo's recent poll shows that Barcelona fans dream about signing Kylian Mbappe who could replace ageing Luis Suarez. Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski, Antoine Griezmann and Neymar also were among the 20 options for bolstering the club's attack but the fans deliver a clear response: we want Mbappe.
The French sensation got 49% of the votes which is 35% more than the second-favourite Harry Kane who only managed 14%. Interestingly, Barca have been linked with Kane before but it is believed that the transfer of the Englishman might be even more difficult than the one of Mbappe.
Eintracht Frankfurt's Luka Jovic is the third most liked candidate with 7%. If Barca decides to pursue the Serbian they will face strong competition from Europe's best teams. Thus, Bild report that Real Madrid have lined up an official offer worth of €45m for the 21-year-old.
As for Mbappe, he is likely to remain in Paris despite the Financial Fair Play sanctions looming over the Ligue 1 champions. "It's not 100 per cent, but 2,000 per cent," the club's chief Al-Khelafi told reporters when asked about the probability of Neymar and Mbappe staying at PSG.

OFFICIAL BARCELONA XI VS SEVILLA

Ernesto Valverde has made his choice.
Barcelona announce the line-up for the game against Sevilla that starts in approximately one hour.
XI: Stegen, Semedo, Pique, Umtiti, Alba, Busquets, Rakitic, Vidal, Messi, Suarez and Coutinho.
Subs: Inaki Pena, Murillo, Lenglet, Sergi Roberto, Alena, Malcom and Dembele.

TWO STATS THAT EXPLAIN WHAT IS WRONG WITH LUIS SUAREZ

The forward can't score in six consecutive matches.

1. Suarez's paradox

Surprisingly, the 32-year-old shots became more accurate but he scores fewer goals. Luis has only had better shooting accuracy in 2015/16, however, in his previous seasons, the goal conversion rate and the percentage of shots on target were coinciding. In 2018/19 a clear divergence could be observed:

2. Suarez is not a striker anymore

Barcelona continues benefitting from Luis's actions but these actions have been completely different this season. The Uruguayan is way more involved in the build-up this season while his expected goals and assists took an extremely significant dip in comparison to the previous seasons:
The vertical line signifies the number of expected goals and assists in the final stage of attack, the horizontal line shows the expected goals created through the player's participation in the build-up.
Thus, Suarez is becoming more useful outside of the penalty box.
How should Ernesto Valverde use Suarez?

CITY RESPOND TO ALLEGATIONS RELATING TO SANCHO DEAL

Manchester City reiterated their belief that there is an "organised and clear" attempt to "damage the club's reputation" after allegations were made claiming they gave Jadon Sancho's agent a contract to work as a scout to cover up a payment for his move from Watford.
German publication Der Spiegel claims to have seen documents from whistleblowers Football Leaks that show City paid Emeka Obasi £200,000 as part of the scouting contract to find players in south and central America.
Der Spiegel alleged this payment was actually in relation to Sancho's move from Watford as a 14-year-old to circumvent FIFA rules that prevent agent fees being made in transfers involving minors.
It has also claimed to have seen an e-mail sent to Sancho's father outlining what salary and bonuses he would receive once he turned professional. According to the report, a club lawyer later intervened stressing the letter was not an offer.
City said they would not reply to any reports stemming from purported hacked documents, while contending claims they failed to offer comment to Der Spiegel.
A statement from a City spokesperson read: "In relation to the story published this evening by Der Spiegel, and contrary to their assertion that Manchester City FC did not respond to their query – please see below statement which was sent to them earlier this week.
"You will have seen this statement before. However, it is important to use it in full, as each element is material, as we pointed out to Der Spiegel in our reply.
"'We will not be providing any comment on out-of-context materials purported to have been hacked or stolen from City Football Group and Manchester City personnel and associated people. The attempt to damage the Club's reputation is organised and clear.'"
Last year, Der Spiegel alleged the Premier League champions flagrantly breached Financial Fair Play (FFP) laws.
The publication made claims against City in a series of articles, purportedly using information attained from Football Leaks, claiming the club topped up multi-million pound sponsorship deals with Abu Dhabi companies using their owner's fortune in order to meet UEFA's FFP rules.
It was also alleged that City were cut a favourable FFP settlement when they were punished for overspending by UEFA in 2014, with the club releasing the same statement used in reply to the latest allegations.

COURT ODERS THE ARREST OF FORMER SUPER EAGLE JAY JAY OKOCHA

Premium times reports that  a Lagos Division of the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of former Super Eagles star, Austin Okocha, over tax evasion charges.
Jay Jay Okocha has repeatedly failed to appear before the court to answer why he allegedly failed to pay his income taxes.
Adedayo Akintoye, the judge, issued the warrant for the arrest of the former Eagles captain on January 29 and thereafter adjourned until February 19.
However, on February 19, the prosecution had not effected the arrest forcing the judge to, again, adjourn till April 15 and ordered that the warrant is executed by then.
The football star is facing a three-count charge instituted by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice bordering on failure to furnish his income returns and nonpayment of tax.
The state filed the charges through its prosecutor, Jide Martins, in June 2017 and the suit began four months later.
The defendant, however, had failed to appear in court.
After several adjournments without Mr Okocha appearing despite having been served the court papers, Mr Martins prayed the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
According to the prosecutor, Mr Okocha had failed to furnish his income returns for tax purposes to the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service.
Mr Martins also said that the defendant had failed to pay his income taxes.
He said the offences contravened Sections 56 (a) and (b) of the Lagos State Revenue Administration Law No. 8, 2006 and Section 94 (1) of the Personal Income Tax Act Cap P8, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004

LACAZETTE BANNED FOR BOTH EUROPA LEAGUE LAST 16 - LEGS

Alexandre Lacazette will miss Arsenal's entire Europa League last-16 tie after the striker was handed a three-game suspension following his sending off against BATE.
France forward Lacazette was shown a straight red for elbowing Aleksandar Filipovic in the late stages of last week's 1-0 loss away to BATE and will no play no part in either of next month's matches against Rennes.
The 27-year-old has already served one match of his ban, sitting out the 3-0 home triumph over the Belarusian side in the return encounter at Emirates Stadium, meaning he is free to return for the quarter-finals if Unai Emery's men advance past their Ligue 1 opponents, whom they were drawn against on Friday.
Arsenal had few troubles in overturning the deficit incurred against BATE as Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos both struck after Zakhar Volkov's early own goal to confirm an ultimately comfortable 3-1 win on aggregate.
Valencia, meanwhile, have lost Geoffrey Kondogbia for both meetings with Krasnodar after UEFA punished the midfielder for deliberately picking up a booking in their first-leg victory against Celtic.
Kondogbia was cautioned for time wasting in Glasgow in an apparent attempt to serve a yellow-card ban before the last 16, which he will now sit out.
UEFA's decision is a timely one with the governing body investigating Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos after he allegedly committed a similar act away to Ajax in the Champions League knockout rounds.
Elsewhere, Serie A outfit Lazio have had a charge of racist behaviour levelled against them - stemming from the 3-0 aggregate loss to Sevilla - which will be heard by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on March 28.
The circumstances behind the allegation are unclear.

CHELSEA PLACED UNDER TRANSFER BAN FOR THE NEXT TWO WINDOWS

The club have been punished for breaching rules on the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18.
The ban does not prevent players being released by the club and it does not apply to Chelsea’s women’s and futsal teams.
Chelsea have been given three days to appeal against FIFA’s decision.
The move follows a Fifa investigation into Chelsea’s signing of foreign U18 players, including the club’s former forward Bertrand Traore, a Burkina Faso international who now plays for French Ligue 1 club Lyon.
Traore signed professional forms for Chelsea in 2013 at the age of 18 but was not registered until January the following year.
French website Mediapart, quoting documents from Football Leaks, reported that Fifa had scrutinised 19 Chelsea signings.
Mediapart reported that FIFA found evidence that Chelsea had supplied misleading information about Traore’s signing and that he had made more than 20 appearances for the club at different age levels despite not being registered by the Football Association.
Part of a statement read: “Chelsea was found to have breached art. 19 of the Regulations in the case of twenty-nine (29) minor players and to have committed several other infringements relating to registration requirements for players. The club also breached art. 18bis of the Regulations in connection with two agreements it concluded concerning minors and which allowed it to influence other clubs in transfer-related matters.
The Disciplinary Committee sanctioned Chelsea with a ban on registering new players at both national and international level for the next two (2) complete and consecutive registration periods. This ban applies to the club as a whole – with the exception of the women’s and futsal teams – and does not prevent the release of players.
“Additionally, the club was fined CHF 600,000 and given a period of 90 days to regularise the situation of the minor players concerned.
“The Football Association was also found to have breached the rules in connection with minors. It was fined CHF 510,000 and given a period of six months to address the situation concerning the international transfer and first registration of minors in football.
“The protection of minors is a key element in FIFA’s overall regulatory framework relating to the transfer of players and effective enforcement of these rules is paramount, as also confirmed on various occasions by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
“The decisions issued by the Disciplinary Committee were notified today and can be contested before the FIFA Appeal Committee.”
Chelsea have since reacted to the news, saying they plan to appeal the punishment.
“Chelsea FC categorically refutes the findings of the Fifa Disciplinary Committee and will therefore be appealing the decision,” part of a statement read.
“The club wishes to emphasise that it respects the important work undertaken by Fifa in relation to the protection of minors and has fully cooperated with Fifa throughout its investigation. Initially, Chelsea FC was charged under Articles 19.1 and 19.3 in relation to 92 players. We welcome the fact that Fifa has accepted that there was no breach in relation to 63 of these players, but the club is extremely disappointed that Fifa has not accepted the club’s submissions in relation to the remaining 29 players. Chelsea FC acted in accordance with the relevant regulations and will shortly be submitting its appeal to Fifa.”

BARCELONA PLANING FOR POST MESSI FUTURE

Barcelona are beginning to plan for a future without Lionel Messi, although club president Josep Maria Bartomeu believes he will sign another contract.
The 31-year-old's current deal will expire after the 2020-21 campaign and the Barca captain has previously said he would like to return to his homeland with boyhood club Newell's Old Boys.
Messi started his career at Newell's but moved to Barcelona as a teenager, developing into an all-time great of the game with nine LaLiga titles and four Champions League crowns.
Bartomeu remains hopeful Messi can be persuaded to extend his time at the club even further but accepts Barca must have a plan for when the Argentina international moves on.
"We are already thinking about it, but it is a future still far away," Bartomeu said to Le Figaro. "He is a young player, he is 31-years-old, his performance is very good, he plays even better and better, I do not know how he does it!
"He has a contract for two seasons, but I think he will extend his career beyond 2021. But you have to think of young talent. When Messi no longer plays, no one can replace him. It's impossible.
"Behind Messi, there is nobody. Neither in Barca nor anywhere else. The coach of the day will have to think of how the team will play [but] the idea of Barca football will remain the same."
Barcelona have been strongly linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain's Adrien Rabiot, but Bartomeu denied there has been contact between the LaLiga leaders and the France international.
Rabiot is expected to leave PSG at the end of the season, when his deal expires, with the midfielder not in contention for selection by coach Thomas Tuchel due to the contract stand-off.
"The planning of the club for the next seasons is not yet launched, we will start in March," Bartomeu said of links to Rabiot.
"In addition, Barca always puts the priority on the players of our B team. If we do not find them, we will look for them outside.
"The only sure thing about Rabiot is that on June 30 he will be free."
One player who will be lining up for Barca next season is the Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, with the Netherlands international adding to Ernesto Valverde's midfield options after agreeing a move worth €86million.
"When a player arrives at Barca, he knows he will be competing. It's a challenge for them, some accept it, others do not," Bartomeu continued. "When we go looking for a talent outside, we are sometimes told: 'I want to play, not be on the bench.'
"He is a player who will mark a time of European football. He has an incredible talent and an understanding of football which is that of Barca... and the same as that of Ajax."

DE GEA WANTS MORE THAN £90 MILLION CONTRACT BEING OFFERED AT UNITED

Manchester United fear star goalkeeper David de Gea wants more than the £90 million contract the club are offering as they look to re-sign the Spanish international.
The 28-year-old's current contract runs out at the end of the 2019/20 season, after United activated a club option one-year club extension to keep de Gea at Old Trafford, and both de Gea and the Red Devils have been working towards a new contract.
However, the club are now worried the representatives for the goalkeeper are pricing them out of retaining his services, according to reports by ESPN.
Manchester United have reportedly offered de Gea a five-year contract worth £350,000 per week, which would have him as the third-highest paid player at the club behind only Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez, but the lack of agreement at this stage has officials concerned they may not be able to afford his demands.
The deal would be worth a staggering £90 million over the five years of the contract should de Gea sign it, making him the highest-paid gloveman of all time.
Both Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have been linked with moves for de Gea in recent years as his future at Old Trafford was cloudy under former manager Jose Mourinho.
PSG would arguably be able to beat United's massive contract offer.

ROBBEN SAYS ANFIELD IS HIS WORSE STADIUM

Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben says Anfield is his "worst stadium" ahead of the German champions' blockbuster Champions League showdown with Liverpool.
Robben and his teammates will travel to the iconic ground on Tuesday night for the first leg of their Round of 16 tie, and the Netherlands international was transparent about his feelings towards the Reds' home.
"I think, if you ask the worst stadium for me, it’s probably Liverpool," Robben told The Guardian.
"You always have your favourite opponent and there always has to be a negative one."
The 35-year-old has been on the wrong end of a number of heavy defeats at the famed arena, including a 4-0 loss in 2009 when playing for Real Madrid.
He was also twice knocked out of the Champions League at Anfield, in 2005 and again in 2007, so Anfield certainly holds bad memories for the flashy winger.
Robben will have to watch from the bench against the Reds after failing to overcome an injury that has not been disclosed. Jerome Boateng will also not feature for Bayern after struggling with his own fitness.

JOSE MOURINHO OPEN TO LIGUE 1 JOB

Jose Mourinho has suggested he would take a job in Ligue 1, while attending Lille's home game against Montpellier.
Mourinho, who has worked as a television pundit after being sacked by Manchester United in December, was pictured shaking hands with former France striker Nicolas Anelka at Sunday's game.
Earlier this month Mourinho was caught on camera suffering a fall at an ice hockey game in Russia, but he was on safer ground at the Stade Pierre Mauroy to watch a 0-0 draw.
"Look who is invited in the stands of the Stade Pierre Mauroy to attend #LOSCMHSC," Lille posted on Twitter with a photo of Mourinho at the game. "No, no, you're not dreaming - it's Jose Mourinho, the 'special one' in person."
The Portuguese coach has won league titles in his homeland as well as Italy, Spain and England throughout his distinguished career, which has also produced a pair of Champions League crowns, and he suggested he may be keen to work in France.
"I can imagine myself as a coach in Ligue 1," Mourinho, who previously dismissed speculation he could take charge of Benfica, said to beIN SPORTS.
"I am a man who has worked in four different countries, I like to know and learn other cultures. Working in a new championship would be a fantastic experience.
"For now I'm calm, I try to live better with my family and friends and I work to get the right opportunity to go back to training.
"Two to three months [without a job] is okay, afterwards it's more difficult. I hope to have the opportunity to come back stronger.
"My project is my project as a person and coach, to improve myself, to be better, to think all days about my profession, which is also a passion. But this is not the time to talk with clubs."
Mourinho, previously linked with taking charge at Paris Saint-Germain, was reportedly a guest of Lille's technical director Luis Campos, with whom he worked at Real Madrid.
Campos - who has been linked with a move to either Chelsea or Manchester United - was sat next to Mourinho, who took a selfie with Lille goalkeeper Kouakou Herve Koffi.
Mourinho and his assistants were paid a total of £19.6million in compensation by United after the manager was sacked.
Interim replacement Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has subsequently led the club back into the Premier League's top four.

CAN:- NO PRIVILEGES AT JUVENTUS EVEN FOR RONALDO

Emre Can has labelled Juventus a "family club", and insists that there is no special treatment afforded to the Serie A champions' star man Cristiano Ronaldo.
Can, like Ronaldo, joined Juve in the closing season, having signed on a free transfer from Liverpool.
The Germany midfielder has established himself as a first-team regular under Massimiliano Allegri, though his arrival in Turin was always going to be overshadowed by that of Ronaldo, who is Juve's top scorer with 19 league goals from 24 appearances.
But Can, who compared the atmosphere at Juve to that of his former club Liverpool, has revealed that Ronaldo is not the recipient of any extra privileges.
"A family. It's a family club, really," Can told Tuttosport.
"And in this I found many similarities with Liverpool, where the spirit of the dressing room is similar.
"Yes, I really like Juventus. Individualities count much less than the group. It is not common, in the national team I often talk with the players of other big clubs and they tell me very different things.
"Ronaldo is here, the biggest in the world, but in the locker room he is the same as the others and behaves naturally.
"Everyone is at the same level, there are no privileges, we work, then we make jokes. This affects work, because you enter the field to always train with the right mood."
Ronaldo scored twice on Friday, as Juve beat Frosinone 3-0 to extend their lead at the top of Serie A, with focus now turned to Wednesday's Champions League last 16 tie with Atletico Madrid.

SIR ALEX TO MANAGE MANCHESTER UNITED IN TREMBLE REUNION MATCH

Manchester United have confirmed that Alex Ferguson will manage his old club in the special 'Treble Reunion' match at Old Trafford in May.
Ferguson retired in 2013 after leading United to their 20th top-flight title, which remains the last time they were crowned champions of England.
The 77-year-old's finest achievement of his hugely successful 27 years at the club was the treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles in 1999.
United are to hold a commemorative match against Bayern Munich on May 26 to mark the 20th anniversary of their meeting in that famous European final in Barcelona.
The Red Devils have now confirmed that Ferguson will be taking charge of the home team for the match, which will raise money for the Manchester United Foundation.
"I'm really looking forward to what will be a special day at Old Trafford," Ferguson, who was hospitalised with a brain haemorrhage last May, said via United's website.
"It will be great to catch up with some familiar faces and a great opportunity to support the work of Manchester United Foundation."
Former United full-back Gary Neville was among those to respond to the news on social media.
United secured the treble, a unique achievement in English football, by beating Bayern 2-1 thanks to dramatic late goals from Teddy Sheringham and current caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
