ABOUT 36 PASSENGERS KIDNAPPED ALONG THE BUEA - KUMBA HIGHWAY

Jan. 15/01/2919 about Thirty-six passengers were abducted by gunmen on Tuesday along the Buea-Kumba highway in the Southwest, one of the two war-torn English-speaking regions of Cameroon, according to locals.
"Two transport buses left Kumba for Buea and were stopped at Ediki village by gunmen. All passengers were ordered to step down and hand over their identification cards. They were then taken to the bush to an unknown destination. The bus drivers were ordered to return to the bus stop in Kumba," Samuel Asong, a driver who witnessed the incident, says so.
Movement along the highway has been halted and the search for the hostages has been launched, according to local authorities.
Cases of kidnapping are on the rise amid escalating conflict in the troubled English-speaking regions of the largely French-speaking African country.
In November, a group of 79 school children was kidnapped in Bamenda, the most populous city of Northwest, another English-speaking region.
The Cameroonian government has blamed armed separatists for the rampant abductions but the separatists insist they are staged by government to tarnish their "struggle for independence" internationally.
The United Nations estimates that more than 430,000 people have been displaced internally since government forces started clashing with armed separatists in November 2017.
The separatists are fighting to secede from Cameroon and create a nation called "Ambazonia" in the two Anglophone regions of Northwest and Southwest.

BARCELONA REJCTS NEYMAR PHONE CALL REPORT

Barcelona have rejected a report that claimed Neymar's father has contacted the club regarding setting up a return from Paris Saint-Germain.
Neymar joined PSG in a world-record deal in August 2017 but reports he has failed to settle in the French capital have been regular.
Barca captain Lionel Messi has spoken in favour of Neymar heading back to the LaLiga leaders, with reports this week claiming Neymar's father had been in touch over a possible deal.
Ernesto Valverde distanced himself from such reports and club spokesman Josep Vives said at a news conference on Tuesday there was no call from Neymar Sr to club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
"In the first place, that's not the case, and Neymar left because that's what he decided, and from there we have nothing more to say," Vives told reporters.
"We never talked about players who have contracts with other clubs, at the time he decided to leave Barca, a completely legitimate decision on his part."
Barca are reportedly trying to sign an attacker during the January transfer window following the sale of Munir El Haddadi to Sevilla, while PSG's financial situation has led to suggestions Neymar could be sold.
Valverde said earlier this month that permanent deals were unlikely to be concluded by the club this month, with Jeison Murillo joining on loan from Valencia to address a defensive injury crisis.
Barca's transfer kitty could be boosted by Paulinho's loan to Guangzhou Evergrande being converted into a permanent deal, however.
Vives told reporters the Chinese Super League side have already paid the fee, reported to be €42million, to complete the transfer.
"We would like to publicly explain the details of such a beneficial operation," he added.
"But we cannot do it because we are subject to a confidentiality clause with the Chinese club.
"The agreement is magnificent, good for the player, also for the Chinese club and very good for Barcelona."

ATLETICO MADRID IN TALKS TO SIGN £70 MILLION PREMIER LEAGUE STRIKER

Atletico Madrid are in talks to sign Alvaro Morata from Chelsea, who signed for the Blues in a club record £70 million fee less than 18 months ago, according to reports by Sky Sports.
Morata has struggled since joining the west London club, managing just scoring just 5 goals in 16 appearances in the Premier League, and manager Maurizio Sarri has lost patience with the Spaniard.
A host of La Liga clubs were initially keen on bringing the 26-year-old back to his home nation, but it appears Atletico Madrid have separated themselves and are in pole position to sign the former Real Madrid and Juventus striker. Morata would be the longterm replacement for Diego Costa.
The deal is believed to initially be a loan deal, but Chelsea are reportedly keen to push for a permanent fee or an option to make a loan deal permanent, with the club wanting to recoup a significant portion of the huge fee they paid for his services in 2017.
Morata's departure is set to pave way for the Blues making a major signing up front, with Callum Wilson and Gonzalo Higuain at the top of their wishlist.
Wilson has starred for Bournemouth this season, scoring 9 goals and also winning his first cap for England where he scored on debut. Higuain is believed to be Sarri's no.1 choice, but his situation is made difficult given he is on loan from Juventus at AC Milan, who do not wish to terminate his deal.

ZLATAN FINISHES OFF RONALDO’S ‘NEW CHALLENGE’ CLAIM OVER JUVE MOVE

  • Cristiano Ronaldo motivated his move to Juventus by the need of the new challenge.
  • He also suggested that Messi 'is afraid' of such challenge staying in Spain his whole career.
  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic  reckons such a claim is absurd, with Juve almost guaranteed to win Serie A every season.
  • A real challenge would be to join a second-division team and made them champions, the 37-year-old concludes.
Former Blaugrana Zlatan Ibrahimovic has labelled Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer to Juventus "bulls***" as it's far from being a challenge in any regard.
Shortly after signing for the Old Lady in the summer transfer window, the Portuguese superstar urged Leo Messi to join him in Italy in what he called a challenge.
"I've played in England, Spain, Italy, Portugal and for my national team, while he's still in Spain," said Ronaldo.
"Maybe he needs me more. For me, life is a challenge, I like it and I like to make people happy. He's a fantastic player and a good guy, but I don't miss anything here. This is my new life and I'm happy."
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not having any of it as the Swede has decided to shut down this rather nonsensical claim.
"Cristiano is talking about new challenges, he calls it a challenge to move to a club where it is already normal to win the Serie A,” summed up the situation Ibrahimovic, as per the Express.
Why did he not choose a club from a second division a few years ago?" Try to become a champion with such a second-division champion and lead them to the highest level, which is a challenge.
“It is bulls***, moving to Juventus is not a challenge at all."

GUARDIOLA: CITY CAN’T AFFORD £100 MILLION MIDFIELDER

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City cannot afford to sign Wolverhampton star Ruben Neves because they have been priced out by his reported £100 million price tag.
Guardiola, who has spent more than £500 million on new players in three years at the Etihad, is a known admirer of the Portugese star and had been expected to renew his interest in the Wolves player following his failed attempt at signing Jorginho last summer.
City have been in the market for a replacement for the ageing Fernandinho, but Guardiola says the club cannot afford the fee being touted for the 21-year-old.
"A month ago, I started reading: 'Ruben Neves, £100m.' That is not going to happen, we are not going to pay £100m for a holding midfielder," Guardiola said ahead of his side's clash with Neves' Wolves.
"Of course, all departments in the club, we have in every position four or five or six options, depending on age, what we believe and, of course, the price. Our wage bill for the players is eighth or ninth or tenth in Europe, so there are eight or nine clubs where the wages are higher than what Manchester City pay. We try to be stable in everything."
Guardiola defended the club's spending over the past few seasons, which includes transfer fees of over £50 million for Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte, Benjamin Mendy and Riyard Mahrez, saying the club needed to transition into a younger squad.
"When we spent a lot last season, it was because the team was old, it was 30-31 years old and that's why we did it. But we cannot do it every season. We have a limit and cannot spend more so that's why we need to be careful with the players and try next season to see what we can do to improve."
He also said it is difficult for Manchester City to make an impact in the transfer market because they are directly competing with Real Madrid and Barcelona. Ajax's Frenkie De Jong has been linked with all three major clubs, but Guardiola refused to be drawn on the possibility of signing the highly-touted youngster.
"If you are the only one who want players it's easy. But if you want one and many, many clubs want him it's more complicated, especially if it's Madrid or Barcelona," he said.
"Normally when you are involved with Madrid and Barcelona you are going to lose. You have to be quicker and more efficient.
"But I'm not talking about the case of the Ajax player because he is an Ajax player. There are many players, not just one if it doesn't happen."

VALDANO CALLS ON MADRID AND ISCO TO RESOLVE DIFFERENCES

Former Real Madrid sporting director and coach Jorge Valdano has called on the club to find a solution to Isco's ongoing plight.
The Spain international was a key man for Madrid as they won three consecutive Champions League titles under Zinedine Zidane, but he has fallen out of favour since Santiago Solari took over.
Isco's five LaLiga starts this season all came while Julen Lopetegui was at the helm, but Solari insisted there was nothing personal in his decision to leave the 26-year-old on the bench as a weakened Madrid side won 2-1 at Real Betis on Sunday.
Valdano is not impressed, though, and believes there must be issues behind the scenes that need to be fixed.
"A year ago, the great hopes of Real Madrid were Isco and [Marco] Asensio," Valdano told Onda Cero. "One has been lost along the way and the other is under observation.
"Everyone knows that something is wrong with Isco, but nobody knows what is happening. It should be solved in private. Cristo Gonzalez played ahead of Isco [against Betis] - this is a serious problem.
"I suppose it is something that is talked about within the club. Isco must do some soul-searching."
Madrid climbed to fourth in LaLiga with victory on Sunday, but Solari's men remain 10 points behind leaders Barcelona after 19 matches.

ALBA DOES’NT KNOW IF BARCA WANTS TO RESIGN HIM

Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba wants to stay at Camp Nou but is unsure if LaLiga's reigning champions will offer him a new contract.
Alba's future is up in the air with his Barca deal ending in 2020 and no renewal forthcoming at the moment.
The 29-year-old Spain international, who arrived from Valencia in 2012, has previously expressed his bemusement over a lack of progress regarding a contract extension.
Asked about the situation following Barca's 3-0 LaLiga victory against Eibar on Sunday, Alba said: "Everything is still the same for me, I have a year left on my contract and I don't know what the club thinks. I'm calm.
"They have to see if they want to renew me and when they do want to renew me if that is the case.
"I want to stay here as this is the club that I love and have always supported, but it depends on them.
"For me, I can only control my own performance which I think has been good, but I don't expect anything from anyone."

MOURINHO TAKES TV PUNDIT JOB AFTER DENYING LINK TO BENEFICA

Jose Mourinho will appear as a television pundit for beIN SPORTS, the broadcaster has confirmed.
Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United last month and the Red Devils have won all five games under interim replacement Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Portuguese has denied he is set to return to the Primeira Liga by taking charge of Benfica, while returns to either Inter or Real Madrid have also been mooted.
"I do not like feeding news stories, but I have no intention of working in Portugal," he said to Correio da Manha on Thursday. "The best way to respect a great club [Benfica] and a great president is to say that I was not approached."
But Mourinho is back in work after agreeing a deal with beIN that will see him cover Premier League and Asian Cup matches for the broadcaster.
Mourinho's first appearance on beIN will be for Thursday's Asian Cup group stage fixture between Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
He will resume punditry duties two days later for a Premier League clash between Arsenal and Chelsea, one of his former clubs.
Mourinho is no newcomer to punditry work as he was part of Russia-based RT's coverage for the 2018 World Cup.

EMERY UNSURE OF CECH’S ARSENAL FUTURE

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery does not know whether veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech will be at the Premier League club next season.
Cech is out of contract at the end of the campaign and the 36-year-old is facing an uncertain future in London.
He has found opportunities limited behind Bernd Leno, having started the season as Emery's first-choice keeper prior to a hamstring injury in September.
Cech is set to start Saturday's FA Cup clash against Blackpool and when asked about the Czech Republic international's future, Emery – who played down links with Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas – told reporters: "I don't know now.
"This is a question for the club and the player to deal with our necessary things with the goalkeeper.
"But when he played at the start of the season, he did very well. He was very good behaviour, commitment and performance. Then when he had the injury Leno started playing with a big performance also and then he recovered his position on the bench.
"But I am happy with him. All situations like this, we will speak with the player and with the club but at the moment, I want his focus the same, each training, each match.
"He is going to play Saturday to give us his performance and then we are going to decide also within what is the best for him and for the club."

BALE NOWHERE NEAR BEING A REAL MADRID LEADER

Gareth Bale lacks the qualities to be the leader Real Madrid need now that Cristiano Ronaldo is not at the club, according to former forward Predrag Mijatovic.
The injured Bale had to be taken off at half-time of Thursday's 2-2 LaLiga draw with Villarreal, when Madrid were leading 2-1.
It was the 11th occasion this season that the Wales international has been substituted in the top flight and the 15th in all competitions, underlining the persistent problems he has had with injuries over the last three campaigns in particular.
And Mijatovic, who won four trophies with Madrid between 1996 and 1999, has questioned whether Bale can fill the void left by record goalscorer Ronaldo, who joined Juventus in a €112million deal in July.
"It's a shame about Bale," Mijatovic told El Larguero."I like him, but he is nowhere near being a leader at a team like Real Madrid after Cristiano's exit. It is worrying that he injures himself so often."
Mijatovic was left dumbfounded by the substitutions made by head coach Santiago Solari in the draw at Estadio de la Ceramica, in which Santi Cazorla scored the crucial equaliser in the 82nd minute.
Luka Modric, who had been battling flu in the build-up to the game, was replaced by Federico Valverde 64 minutes in, while Vinicius Junior was a late attacking change for Toni Kroos.
"If a player starts the game and feels good, [let him continue]," said Mijatovic. "If he asks to be substituted, then that is one thing, but if not, I do not understand.
"The substitution of Modric was wrong. I don't understand Kroos' substitution, either."
The result means Madrid are fourth in the table, seven points behind leaders Barcelona after 17 matches.
Mijatovic, scorer of the winning goal in the 1998 Champions League final against Juventus, admits it is tough to watch Madrid struggling this term.
"I find it hard to watch Real Madrid this year," he said. "They were good in the first half and when we all thought they were going to carry on, there was a disastrous second half and no play."
However, Mijatovic does not expect Madrid to spend money in the January transfer window, adding: "I think that Madrid are not going to make any more signings. Signing a player who can offer a good performance will be difficult."

KLOPP ‘WOULD HAVE PAID MONEY’ TO BE FOUR POINTS CLEAR OF CITY AFTER BOTH FIXTURES

Jurgen Klopp says he "would have paid money" to be four points clear of Manchester City in the Premier League after two games against the champions this season.
City ran out 2-1 winners in their meeting at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday, moving them back to within four points of the leaders and inflicting a league defeat on the Reds for the first time this season.
Defeat saw Liverpool ultimately pass up the chance to go 10 clear of City, something that, in the eyes of many, would have effectively ended the hosts' title hopes.
As it was, Leroy Sane's 72nd-minute winner blew the title race open once again, as the German clinched victory after Roberto Firmino had cancelled out Sergio Aguero's emphatic opener.
Nevertheless, Klopp did not want to focus on the negative, adamant he never thought it possible to be clear of City after playing their two regulated Premier League fixtures.
"If someone had told me after both games against Man City that we were four points clear, I would have paid money for it, you cannot believe," Klopp told reporters.
"I didn't think it would be possible. Football is like this. If we win this [match] and are 10 points ahead and from that point win no games, then nothing happens. It's really important we take it game by game.
"If we would have won the title five times in the last 10 years, we would say; '100 percent [we'll win it]'. But we don't have experience in it, so why act like someone who wins all the time?
"We never won it as a team so we want to finish the season as good as possible, and that's alright, we can, we're still in a good position.
"It is all fine for us. Not in the moment, it feels really bad, but it is only a moment. Then we have an opportunity to work on it."
Liverpool looked sharper in midfielder after Fabinho had replaced James Milner in the 57th minute, though Klopp did not feel the Brazilian suited the system he wanted to start the match with.
"System wise it wasn't a real alternative in the beginning and we adapted well after we changed, only because Gini [Georginio Wijnaldum] played really well on the left wing, or half left wing, if you like," Klopp said.
"Hendo [Jordan Henderson] was really impressive, and offensively I think we already had more moments [than City] in the game [before Fabinho came on], that's what we showed the boys at half-time.
"Immediately [after half-time] we were a major threat for them. We came through, passed through, the chance of Sadio [Mane] was great.
"There were others moments when we took the ball and accelerated, not immediately passing, because if you can outplay the counter-press every team in the world struggles, even City.
"We had these moments and sometimes the cross wasn't good enough, or the pass – that happens. It's not about two players [Fabinho and Milner].
"You have to constantly work for momentum. That was the game today. There were a lot of really wild moments, a lot of rusty moments. It was really intense for both teams – they won, we lost, that's how it is sometimes."

JUVENTUS CONFIRMS INTEREST IN RAMSEY

Juventus have confirmed their interest in signing Aaron Ramsey but expect a number of Europe's top clubs to be vying for the Arsenal midfielder's signature.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Ramsey is free to speak to clubs outside of England about a free transfer and Juve have been strongly linked with a move.
Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have also been touted as potential destinations for the Wales international, but Juve are thought to be leading the race.
And Fabio Paratici, the Bianconeri's sporting director, says the Serie A leaders are monitoring Ramsey's situation as they look to strengthen Massimiliano Allegri's squad for the 2019-20 campaign.
"We start from an already high level, but we always look for ways to improve the team, we are open to market opportunities," he told Sky Sport Italia.
"He [Ramsey] is an excellent player, he has been playing at a high level for many years and plays for a great team. For now, that's it.
"He is a player whose contract is expiring, and, as I said before, we always pay attention to the situations offered by the transfer market because it is our duty, so we also pay attention to Ramsey.
"[A deal] is yet to be decided. Now, he is still an Arsenal player and we are certainly not the only ones interested."

RONALDO: AM NOT OBSESSED WiITH INDIVIDUAL PRIZES

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo insisted he was not obsessed with individual awards after enjoying another stellar year in 2018.
Ronaldo, 33, guided Real Madrid to a third straight Champions League success before his move to Juve, where he has scored 15 goals in 24 games.
But he was denied a sixth Ballon d'Or, finishing second to Madrid star Luka Modric, whose exploits for the LaLiga giants and Croatia saw him claim numerous individual honours.
Ronaldo said those prizes were not something he worried about, adding they often came if you led your team to success.
"I'm not obsessed with individual prizes," he told Record.
"The important thing is helping the team, always, and therefore the rest arrives naturally.
"I don't hide that I'm happy when I win but it's not the end of the world if it can't happen."
