ARSENE WENGER SUPPORTS JOSE MOURINHO SAYING UNITED WAS IN HONEYMOON UNDER SOLSKJAER

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed the performance of Paris Saint-Germain and claimed Manchester United were in a "honeymoon" period under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that was never going to last.
Wenger appeared on the panel of beIN Sports' Champions League coverage on Tuesday evening and was deadly accurate with his pre-match analysis, predicting the French champions would control midfield and would win the match if they were patient in the home side's final third.
“We have seen all the problems of Manchester United as predicted before the game. They cannot build the game up, especially at the back," Wenger said during half-time of the match.
"They cannot make good passes into midfield and United have a real lack of ideas in how to build the game. Man United played at home and had one shot on goal in a Champions League game. You can't be dominated in midfield and the whole evening, Manchester United were dominated in midfield.
He said Paris' decision to stack midfield with defensive players who could retain possession, like Brazilian Marquinhos, proved a masterstroke in nullying the speed of Manchester United.
"PSG played with five midfielders and they never lost the ball. Manchester United could never win the ball back and when they had the ball they lost it very quickly because PSG dominated the midfield to win the ball back.
"They lost the battle in midfield. When you play at home and you cannot keep the ball, you're always in trouble.”
Paul Pogba was particularly poor in the game, failing to take control of midfield and failing to have significant impact on the game before he was sent off after earning a second yellow card for an ugly challenge on Dani Alves. Wenger says Thomas Tuchel masterminded a plan to take the France World Cup winner out of the contest.
"What Paris Saint-Germain did is they blocked Pogba with Marquinhos in man-to-man marking and when Paris Saint-Germain had the ball, Draxler came in behind Pogba and that’s where the chances were created behind the midfield of Manchester United," the Frenchman said.
"Paris Saint-Germain had good opportunities, but were not patient enough to give the final ball and a bit more attention to not be offside, they should have been 2-0 up (at half-time)."
Wenger also showed support for his longterm nemesis Jose Mourinho, saying the turnaround in form was largely due to the easy fixtures following his sacking rather than any vast improvement in tactics under Solskjaer.
"When Mourinho left, Manchester United had five games that were all winnable. And every win makes you stronger and that's what Solskjaer has done as well, he's got young players in.
"This is what you call in a marriage, the honeymoon, and the honeymoon stops at some point and then you have to come back to reality. Maybe you are lucky and you have a longer honeymoon than everybody else."

SAMUEL ETOO’S TWEET RECALLS A DARKER SIDE OF PEP GUARDIOLA

  • Ex-Barca striker took to Twitter to praise Pep Guardiola, ex-Barca boss
  • He admits that playing for Guardiola made you feel at ease, as the Catalan 'made football simple'
  • Earlier, Yaya Toure, ex-Barca and City midfielder has openly branded Pep as having 'problems with Africans'
It all started out with Samuel Eto'o recent tweet in which he praised Pep Guardiola for 'making the football simple':

Looks decent enough, a heartfelt eulogy for one of the most successfull Barca coaches with three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey wins, three Supercopa de EspaƱa, two CL trophies, to name a few.
Yet, there's a darker side to Guardiola's reign at literally any club he managed since his departure from Barcelona.
Let's look at some other stats, the ones you'll barely find on any football website.
This is the number of African players who plied their trade under Pep in every football club the footballing mind managed:
AFRICANS THAT PLAYED UNDER GUARDIOLA
Barcelona
Samuel Eto'o - Cameroon
Seydou Keita - Mali
Yaya Toure - Ivory Coast
Bayern Munich
Mehdi Benatia - Morocco
Manchester City
Yaya Toure - Ivory Coast
Kelechi Iheanacho - Nigeria
Not so many, right?
But what does Yaya Toure has to say about his ex-manager - let's take a look.
Yaya Toure, played under Guardiola in Barcelona and Man City
"He was cruel with me. Do you really think he could've been like that with Andres Iniesta?" Toure said.

"It got to the point I asked myself if it was because of my colour. I'm not the first, other Barca players asked the question too,"

Yaya, known for having an issue with alleged racist-talk (remember City's CL forays into Russia), appears to be embittered with his ex-boss, as he refused Cot D'ivuar international a farewell to Man City, a cruel gesture, given Toure's 300 appearances for the club.

"He stole my farewell with City, a club with beautiful fans. I would have liked to leave with the emotion of this club the way Iniesta [left Barca] or Gianluigi Buffon [left Juventus]. But Pep prevented me."
"I want to be the one who breaks the Guardiola myth,"
Do you think Pep has been a racist all along or is Toure just being peevish?

MARCELO:- IF REAL MADRID DON’T WANT ME, I WILL LEAVE

Real Madrid left-back Marcelo is prepared to leave the club if they no longer want him, but he remains optimistic about his standing at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Brazil international Marcelo is enduring one of the most challenging seasons of his career this term, featuring only 12 times from a possible 23 LaLiga games.
Sergio Reguilon has been the main beneficiary of Marcelo's slump, with the Madrid youth product following Santiago Solari up from the club's Castilla side and making nine appearances on the left side of defence.
As such, media speculation has tentatively linked Marcelo with a move – Juventus touted as a potential destination.
Marcelo does not want to leave, but he will do if Madrid decide they want him out.
"If I am on the list of players [Madrid] want to sell, then they can pay me up and all is sorted," the 30-year-old told Esporte Interativo.
"I trust in myself, in my work, but if a day comes when Real Madrid do not want me, I'll go. I will be sad, but I'll go. But I am sure I will not be kicked out."
Marcelo acknowledged that his form this season has not been at his usual standard, though he is convinced that he is in good condition – all he is lacking is confidence.
"The level I have been showing is difficult to always maintain," he added. "I am a little below that level at the moment, but my career has been like that, some little dips, and unfortunately this season I had three injuries in two months.
"I went through a difficult period in my football and within the club, but that phase is over now, I need to play to get back to my usual form and confidence.
"But I feel good now, physically good, I am training strongly. I need to play to get back my confidence, but physically I am good."

MBAPPE VS RASHFORD:- THE FUTURE OF WORLD FOOTBALL

Manchester United's battle with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League will be headlined by two of the finest young players in Europe who represent the future of football; Kylian Mbappe and Marcus Rashford.
The 20-year-old Mbappe and 21-year-old Rashford have become the focal points for two of the biggest clubs in the competition, outshining even their high-profile teammates including Neymar, Edinson Cavani, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.
With arguably the two most talented young strikers in world football going head-to-head over two legs, LiveScore analyses the performances of the pair this season and how they might impact the massive Round of 16 tie.
Kylian Mbappe
With an absurd 25 goals from 30 games across all competitions, Kylian Mbappe's legend continues to grow. After a 2018 that saw the Frenchman help PSG to the Ligue 1 title, lead France to World Cup glory and win the inaugural Kopa trophy as the best young player in the world, you would have forgiven Mbappe for regressing slightly. But that has not been the case.
In 27 league games last season Mbappe notched 13 goals and 8 assists. This season in just 17 games he has 18 goals and 6 assists, with an astonishing 75% of his shots on target. That means Mbappe is contributing nearly 1.5 goals per game and scoring himself once every 73 minutes. He has also increased his key passes per game from 1.8 to 2.3. The development is staggering, despite playing alongside ball dominant players including the aforementioned Neymar and Cavani and Angel Di Maria.
Mbappe is yet to play at Old Trafford, but the Theatre of Dreams will not daunt the youngster as he showed when scoring in his first appearance at Anfield during a 3-2 loss to Liverpool. With Cavani and Neymar both out injured, the 20-year-old may get the chance to play as the lone striker, a role he has not played since his days at Monaco. He could pose a huge threat in the position against a suspect Manchester United defence.
Former manager Jose Mourinho identified the centre back position as the greatest area of need and made several attempts to sign Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld and Leicester's Harry Maguire because of his distrust in their current options of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof. Jones and Lindelof in particular have been vastly improved under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the club chose not to bring in any reinforcements in the January transfer window, but many are still unconvinced by the pair and Mbappe could reap havoc with his pace.
PSG will likely set up to play on the counter attack after missing so many of their first choice options, which will make Mbappe's role even more important. His combination with Marco Verratti and di Maria will be crucial, particularly if they can get him early, quick ball so he can isolate defenders and use his speed and dribbling ability to attack David de Gea's goal.
The weight on his 20-year-old shoulders will be immense, but his performance will likely decide whether Paris can go into their home leg with any kind of advantage.
Marcus Rashford
Rashford, like Mbappe, has built on a promising 2018 campaign that also saw him experience a deep run in the World Cup as England lost in the semi-finals to Croatia. Rashford burst onto the scene under Louis van Gaal in 2016, scoring on debut for Manchester United in the Europa League, scoring on his Premier League debut against Arsenal and scoring in his Champions League debut the following season.
His career slightly stalled under Jose Mourinho, a manager infamous for his lack of trust in youth players, making 17 starts and 18 substitute appearances in the 2017/18 Premier League season. The 21-year-old managed 7 goals and 5 assists last season, but has bettered both those marks with 9 goals and 6 assists in 22 Premier League appearances this season, including 6 goals in 9 games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Like Mbappe, Rashford's game is built on his speed, dribbling skills and natural finishing ability. Both showed from very young ages they were born strikers, finding the net in a various of different ways from different angles and with both feet. While Mbappe usually plays as the wide forward, Rashford is now United's first choice central striker, and his influence has increased as a result. His familiarity with the role could give him an edge over Mbappe as far as their head-to-head battle goes.
PSG are far more settled at the back than Manchester United and offer a much more daunting task for Rashford to overcome than Mbappe, with Brazilian legend Thiago Silva and French rising star Presnel Kimpembe patrolling the centre of the defence. Both are incredible athletes blessed with strength, power and speed, and will be able to at least keep in the same post code as Rashford, while Jones and Lindelof will have a much more difficult task sticking with Mbappe.
Where Rashford can hurt the French champions is with his fluent movement. Under Mourinho Rashford was being deployed in a wide position, so he is more than comfortable floating into different areas to receive the ball, provide width and move around the defence. Expect him to switch repeatedly with either Alexis Sanchez or Anthony Martial, depending on who is given the left wing role, and Jesse Lingard who will likely be played wide right. If Rashford and the other members of United's front three can keep moving Silva and Kimpembe out of position and attack the absence of Thomas Meunier, it could go a long way to handing Manchester United an advantage as they head to Park des Princes for the second leg.
Regardless of the result, it appears both Kylian Mbappe and Marcus Rashford will be facing off in Champions League and potentially World Cup matches for years to come.

JUVENTUS CONFIRMS RAMSEY DEAL

Aaron Ramsey has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Juventus at the end of the season.
The Wales international will end his long association with Arsenal after agreeing terms on a four-year deal which will reportedly pay him £400,000 per week.
Ramsey's deal at Emirates Stadium expires in June and he had already confirmed his intention to leave after negotiations over a new deal were ended by the club.
The 28-year-old joined the Gunners from Cardiff City 11 years ago, going on to win the FA Cup three times under former boss Arsene Wenger.
However, the midfielder has failed to hold down a regular place under Unai Emery and will now continue his career in Italy.
Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid were also linked with the player, but Juve have won the race to secure his signature.
The Bianconeri have raided a Premier League club to sign a player on a free for a second successive year - Emre Can joined them from Liverpool on a similar deal last June.
"As you may have already heard, I have agreed a pre-contract agreement with Juventus Football Club," Ramsey – who becomes the third Welshman to play for Juve – posted on Instagram.
"I wanted to issue a personal statement for all the Arsenal fans who have been extremely loyal and supportive.
"You welcomed me as a teenager and have been there for me through all the highs and lows I've encountered during my time at the club.
"It is with a heavy heart that I leave after 11 incredible years in north London. Thank you.
"I will continue to give 100 per cent and hope to finish the season strongly, before heading on to my next chapter in Turin."

SERGIO RAMOS: REAL MADRID CAN CATCH BARCELONA

Sergio Ramos insists Real Madrid can catch Barcelona in the LaLiga table after a 3-1 derby win at Atletico Madrid moved his side up to second in the table.
Ramos scored from the penalty spot in Saturday's victory at the Wanda Metropolitano, netting his 11th goal in all competitions this season, making 2018-19 the best scoring record of his career.
Antoine Griezmann had cancelled out Casemiro's bicycle-kick opener before Ramos struck from 12 yards, with Gareth Bale's 100th Madrid goal wrapping up Madrid's first win at the Wanda.
Madrid are now five points behind Barcelona, although the leaders are at Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, and captain Ramos declared the title race alive after a fifth successive league win.
"The league is still to be contested," Ramos said to beIN SPORTS. "There are many points in play and any team can complicate your life as it was seen in the first round [of games].
"We have that hope and we will fight for the league and make it difficult for Barcelona even though they have a very important lead.
"Real Madrid played a very, very good match, very complete in all the lines, not only in attack, but also on a defensive level the team left few possibilities to the opponent and I think the result is fair enough.
"They pushed well up and caused us a lot of danger, but the match is 90 minutes and we have to know how to play the time and in that sense Real Madrid made a very smart game."
Madrid will face Barca twice more in the next three weeks, the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final followed by a LaLiga clash at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 2.
And former Atletico goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois agrees with Ramos that Madrid now have Ernesto Valverde's side in their sights.
"It was a complicated game," Courtois said to Real Madrid TV. "But we knew how to get past the rival, who was not easy at all.
"We put ourselves ahead of them in the table and we'll see how we go to May but now we're very good, with good feelings after the game against Barcelona.
"We do not feel fatigue."

MESSI STATISTICS THIS SEASON 2018/2019

  • Leo failed to create a goal by scoring or assisting in four games this season.
  • Two of those games were 30-minute cameos.
Lionel Messi continues to prove that age is just a number as he is showing amazing football with unbelievable figures at 31 years old. The Argentine has already managed 29 goals and 14 assists in 28 matches this season.
Moreover, there were only four games where Leo failed to create a goal this season. He didn't score or assist in the matches against Real Valladolid at the notorious Zorilla stadium, Real Sociedad at the Anoeta, Tottenham in the Champions League and the latest El Clasico in the Copa del Rey. Curiously, Messi has only played 30 minutes against both the Spurs and the Whites.
Messi keeps making history at Barcelona as he has long been the leading scorer of the total Spanish top-tier. He has recently netted his 400th La Liga goal. This season alone, he has already scored 21 league goals - the first player across the European top five divisions to reach this figure. He is on the course of his record-breaking SIXTH Golden Shoe award.
The forward is currently recovering from a minor injury and his participation in the game against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday is uncertain. He started the midweek Clasico on the bench and was introduced after an hour of play. Messi clearly needs a bit of practice to get back to his best as he wasn't able to deliver his trademark jaw-dropping football against Los Blancos on Wednesday.

WEST HAM HANDS ‘SALAH’ RACIST ABUSE EVIDENCE TO POLICE

West Ham have passed on findings from an investigation into racist abuse directed towards Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah to the Metropolitan Police.
Salah was the subject of expletives and derogatory references to his Muslim faith from a supporter at London Stadium when the sides played out a 1-1 Premier League draw.
The abuse was audible on mobile phone footage, shot from the West Ham end, of Salah talking a corner, which was subsequently shared on social media.
West Ham announced an internal investigation into the incident on Wednesday and have moved quickly to involve the authorities.
"After a thorough and immediate investigation following the abhorrent racist abuse aimed at Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah on Monday night, West Ham United can confirm that it has handed evidence to the Metropolitan Police," a club statement read.
"The club is unequivocal in its stance – such abuse will not be tolerated. There is no place or excuse for this kind of behaviour."
Speaking at a news conference earlier on Thursday, West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini called for any fans found guilty of racially abusing players to be banned from Premier League grounds.
"Of course, I think that cannot happen in the stadium," he said. "The best way to manage those things out of the game is to remove them from the great spectacle that is the Premier League.
"We must have high standards and when this happens, you must take action. The club knows how to work and says it cannot accept these kind of things in the game.
"It was a very good game and everybody was enjoying the game, so these people must be punished as soon as we can."
