Manchester United are reportedly set to trigger the €120 million release clause in Jan Oblak's contract as the future of David De Gea at Old Trafford appears doubtful, according to reports by ESPN.
De Gea has been in uncharacteristically poor form for the Red Devils, making key errors in marquee matches including against Barcelona in the Champions League and Chelsea in the Premier League.
United have been in drawn-out contract negotiations with the Spanish national team goalkeeper over a new deal, with the sides reportedly far apart on his wages.
De Gea is wanting to become the world's highest paid goalkeeper at £300,000 per week, while the club appear unwilling to match his demands.
His play this season suggests De Gea is unsettled by the situation and ESPN are now reporting Manchester United have targetted Atletico Madrid's Oblak as the ideal replacement.
Oblak at 26-years-old presents a younger option than his Spanish counterpart, who is 28, and despite recently signing a new deal with the Spanish side he only saw his release clause increased by €20 million to €120 million.
ESPN say Manchester United believe the fee is fair for a goalkeeper widely considered as one of the best in the world.
The speculation would suggest De Gea will be allowed to leave, with Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid being linked with the star keeper.
